Known also as a picture book author, Motonaga achieved international acclaim as a master of abstract expression.
His works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, honored in a major retrospective at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, and recognized with the Medal with Purple Ribbon for his cultural contributions.
