有馬温泉・高山荘 華野のレストラン「四季亭」にて、彫刻家、掛井五郎氏による版画作品を展示しています。食事とともに、空間に流れる静謐な時間をご体感ください。

掛井 五郎（かけい ごろう）氏は、戦後日本を代表する現代彫刻家のひとり。その立体表現と同様に、版画作品にも強い構成力と内面へのまなざしが宿ります。
彫るように描く、線と余白の緊張感。形と空間の対話。版画でありながら彫刻的な重みを感じさせる作品は、見る人の感性に静かに問いかけてきます。

この作品を華野に届けたのは、館主が師事する華道家。
実際にレストラン「四季亭」を訪れ、「この空間には、掛井作品がふさわしい」と語り、選定。美意識を通わせる関係だからこそ成立する、静けさと気品に満ちた設えとなりました。

掛井作品は、レストランの空間に凛とした静けさと柔らかな緊張感を与えてくれます。
「空間が引き締まりながら、やさしい空気が生まれる」と語るのは館主。
この展示を知った掛井五郎氏のご子息が、自ら華野を訪れ作品をご覧になったことも、大切な思い出となっています。

ただ料理を味わうだけではない、空間全体で季節を感じる“設え”としてのアート。
館主の選定により、四季亭には花器や版画など、さまざまな芸術が配されています。
その中で掛井作品は、「本質を射抜くまなざし」を持って、食事と調和しながら記憶に残るひとときを演出しています。

In the dining space of Takayamaso Hanano in Arima Onsen, art quietly accompanies the moment of a meal. At the restaurant Shikitei, a print by sculptor Goro Kakei is displayed—inviting guests to experience the serene atmosphere that unfolds alongside their dining time.

Goro Kakei, one of Japan’s leading postwar sculptors, infused his prints with the same structural strength and introspective gaze found in his three-dimensional works. His lines seem carved rather than drawn, balancing tension between mark and emptiness—between form and space. Though printed, the work carries a sculptural weight, gently prompting reflection in those who observe it.

This piece was brought to Hanano by the ikebana master who has long guided the innkeeper. After visiting Shikitei in person, the master remarked, “This space deserves a Kakei work,” selecting it with a deep sensitivity shared between artist and admirer. The result is an arrangement filled with stillness and quiet dignity.

Kakei’s print gives the restaurant a poised atmosphere—at once taut and serene. “It sharpens the space, yet creates a gentle air,” the innkeeper notes. The artist’s son, upon hearing about the display, even visited Hanano himself to view the work—an encounter now cherished as a special memory.

More than décor, this is art as an arrangement—an element that shapes the seasonal ambience of the room. Through the innkeeper’s careful curation, Shikitei brings together flower vessels, prints, and other works of art. Among them, Kakei’s print offers a “piercing gaze at the essence,” enriching the dining experience and leaving a lasting impression.
